Diversity Worksheet Essay

1. What is diversity? Why is diversity valued? I have learned that diversity has various different definitions but I will only focus on the Webster’s Dictionary meaning. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, diversity is â€Å"the condition of having or being composed of differing elements: Variety; especially: the inclusion of different types of people (as people of different races or cultures) in a group or organization.† To summarize this definition or make it simple, diversity is to include people from different races, religions, genders, ages, ethnicities, and cultural backgrounds all in one place. Diversity is valued because it teaches us how to accept and understand differences in people and to look beyond personal biases or emotions of language, culture, and race. It also teaches us to be more open and enhances our knowledge of all things or people that are different from us. 2. What is ethnocentrism? In what ways can ethnocentrism be detrimental to a society? Ethnocentrism is the feeling that one’s group or culture is superior to another. Ethnocentrism makes a person bias against other cultures and ethnic groups, makes a person look down on others, and makes a person feel that other cultures are inferior to their own. Furthermore, ethnocentrism can be detrimental to a society in many ways.One way is racism, which is a problem that has plagued our society for decades and has caused violence and death. Ethnocentrism has also caused war and genocide such as the Holocaust. During the time of the Holocaust, the Nazis (who were German) believed that Germans were racially superior and the Jews were inferior. This belief led to the Nazis killing a lot of Jews, disabled people, and homosexuals. In today’s society, I am not sure if ethnocentrism would go that far but it would still harm our society. It can cause more violence, discrimination, and coflicts acrtoss the world. 3. Define emigration and immigration. Emigration is to leave ones’s country permanently to live in another. Immgration is defined as coming into a new country as a permanent resident. Schaefer, R. T. states that â€Å"from Vietnam’s perspective, the â€Å"boat people† were emigrants from Vietnam to the United States, but in the United States they were counted among this nation’s immigrants.† This is how the two terms are different. 4. What are some of the ways groups of people are identified? Groups of people are identified by dominant and subordinate groups to include their race, ethnicity, religion, and gender. The racial group refers to people who are socially set apart because of physical differences. The ethic group is set apart because of their national origin or distinctive cultural patterns. The religious group is set apart because they are associated with a religion other than the dominant faith. The gender group suggests that men are the social majority and women are the minority. Finally there are other subordinate groups that people are identified by such as age, disability status, physical appearance, and sexual orientation. 5. Why do people label and group other people? I believe that some people label and group other people because this is the way they were taught. On the other hand, there are some people who label and group other people because of ignorance. For those who were brought up with prejudice, they continue to label people because it is easier to go off of what they were taught than to look up the facts on their own. Furthermore, I feel that people label and group other people in order to make themselves look good or seem superior. They want to feel as if they are better than others. Labeling and grouping people is judgemental and can easily be avoided if people would just learn other people for themselves. 6. Define culture. Is culture limited to racial and ethnic backgrounds? Explain. Culture is the beliefs, social forms, and material traigts of a race, religion, or social group. It is also the characteristic features of everyday existence shared by people in a place or time (Merriam-Webster online, 2013). Culture can refer to many areas in a society and is not only limited to racial and ethnic backgrounds. Culture can also refer to other areas such as education, business, and science.

You can not put in pictures or borders. It takes very little memory. It is not a good application for professionals. Microsoft Access Open Office Base It is the same but the steps of doing things are totally different. It is very fast and reliable. It is rare so if you need help then you are less likely to get help. If I used it then I can do my work faster because it is very easy to use. It is similar to Microsoft Access so it is easy to use. It has much less features than Microsoft Access. It is easy and straight forward. It takes up a lot of memory. Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Mozilla Firefox It works almost the same but it is faster. Mozilla Firefox is faster than Microsoft Internet Explorer 7. It takes quite a bit of time to download from internet. The difference it will make if I used it is that I will be safer on the web. It is good because it has security which stops viruses and hackers. You have to pay for it because it does not come free. You can get information, play games and email really fast. It is a bit advanced so it may be hard to use for some users. Paint Adobe Photoshop It works almost the same as paint. You are able to change the colour of the picture. The images take up a lot of hard disk memory. The difference it will make is that I will be able to draw more accurate images than paint. It has more options and tools than paint. It does not come with the computer; you will have to buy it. You can also make changes in photos etc. It is a bit hard to use, so experienced people can use it. The main input devices I have used are keyboard, mouse and scanner. Device Speed Errors that can be made Way to correct errors Keyboard The keyboard does not have a set amount of speed it all depends how fast the typist is typing. The speed is calculated in Words Per Minute (WPM). The errors which can be made are that you can type in a word by mistake or do spelling mistakes. If you have typed a word wrong then you have to press back space or if it is a spelling mistake then put the spell check on which underlines the mistake in red. It then gives you a list of words to correct to. Mouse The speed of the mouse actually depends on how fast you move the mouse. You may click on icon which you did not want to press. You have to press back or if t has opened an application then exit it. Scanner The speed of the scanner depends on how powerful the scanner is. The more powerful the faster. Latest models will have more power. You might want to see what goes on in scanner and will lift the lid up. You have to wait till the scanning finishes then you have to repeat it all over again. Keyboard The way I detected my errors is that I checked my work twice. The way I corrected my errors is that I clicked the underlined words and chose a suitable word from the list. Spelling mistakes are underlined in red like this and grammatical mistakes are underlined in green like this. If there was none suitable then I would re-type the correct word. Thereafter I gave it to friend for proof reading. Mouse The way I detected the errors is that when I went on an unwanted page. The way I corrected it is that I simply went back. To prevent such errors; I done my work slowly. If I was on the internet and I made a mistake then I would click the button called BACK which is on the top left corner. Scanner After the image was been scanned, I checked if there were any mistakes in the digital image. If there were any then I restarted the scanning. The way I prevented these errors was that before scanning I made sure that the page was the right way round and having no creases on the paper. Effects of Inaccurate Data Inaccurate data will affect the system by mainly consuming time and causing problems for customers. The way it can be prevented is that tell the customer to repeat it twice. Also tell the customer to say it in phonetics. And lastly, confirm before putting the phone down. Address not correct, such as postcode If the address or the postcode is not correct then letters may not reach the person and go elsewhere. Recommendations not checked correctly If the recommendation is not checked correctly then customers may not get the offers which they have the right to get. This means that every time something is typed wrong in that field than it will not be valid and then a message will come up say what to do. Date of birth not entered in correct format If the date of birth of birth is not entered in the correct format then part of the database could go wrong and it would also cause problems to the customers if it is in the wrong format on tickets and letters. The way it can be prevented is that keep a strict format that all the staff could stick to. Also recheck if it is entered according to the format. And if talking to the customer over the phone then ask which format it is. For example; DD/MM/YY or MM/DD/YY or YY/DD/MM. I have also thought of having a set format for the date of birth. To maintain this I shall have an input mask which is 00/00/0000;0;; Subscriptions not entered in correct format If the subscription is not entered in the correct format then the subscription could go on and on for ever if the expiry date is not entered correctly. The way it can be prevented is that recheck if the date is there and it is entered correctly with the correct format. For this also I will have a set format and to maintain this I will an input mask which is 00/00/0000; 0;; I think that the overall best method of checking the accuracy of the data is that it is rechecked and confirmed. Also I would prefer having an input mask where possible in places like date of birth and post code. Validation It is very important that you have correct and accurate data or else this could lead to many major problems. Validation is a very good way to ensure that you have the correct data. Validation is when the computer itself automatically checks the work and makes sure that the data entered is reasonable but it does not check the accuracy. The main aim of validation is that it makes sure that the data entered is reasonable, allowable and sensible. For example; if you typed in the date of birth of a secondary school student then it is likely to be between 1988 and 1995. If 1955 was entered then it would definitely be wrong and the computer will not accept. This is making sure that the data is reasonable. If Sams date of birth is 1992 and 1989 was typed then it will be still accepted but the data is not true. This is not checking the accuracy of the data. The following are a few methods of validation: 1. Presence check This checks that data has been entered into a field. An example of this method is; * In most databases a key field can not be left empty. 2. Check digit The last one or two digits in a code are used to check if all the other digits are correct. An example of this method is; Â  In shops and super markets, barcode readers use check digits. 3. Type check This checks that of a certain type is entered into a field. An example of this method is; In a clothes shop, dress sizes may range from 8 to 18. For this type of data, a number data type would be suitable. If the data type is set as number then only numbers could be entered and a person will be prevented form typing in letters and words. If size ten or eleven was entered, then it would be rejected and 10 or 11 would need to be entered. 4. Format check This checks if data is in the correct format. An example of this method is; Â  A National Insurance number is in the form LL 99 99 99 L. In which L is any letter and9 is any number. 5. Spell check This looks up words in a dictionary. An example of this method is; Â  When word processing. 6. Length check This checks that the data entered is not too long or too short. An example of this method is; A password which needs to be six characters long. 7. Range check This checks that a value fall within the specified range. An example of this method is; Number of hours worked must be no more than 50 hours and more than 0 hours. 8. Look up table This looks up acceptable values in a table. An example of this method is; Â  There are only seven possible days in a week. Verification Verification is to check if the data meets the required standards. For example; if a password is created, then you have to verify by typing it a second time to see if they both match. If the passwords did not match each other then the computer does not allow him to go through because the required standard is that the passwords must match each other and must be typed in correctly. The following are a few methods of verification: 1. Re-typing the data Re-typing the data could get rid of a lot of mistakes. This method is only ideal for small amounts of data such as passwords. However, also in small amounts of data there is also a problem which is that the mistake could be repeated in the second piece of data and this does not pick up the mistake. The reason why it is not ideal for large amounts of data is for three main reasons. They are as follows; You would end up with two copies of the data Mistakes which are repeated will not get picked up. Â  It would be time consuming to re-type large amounts of data. 2. Checking the data on the screen with the original paper document This method saves having to re-type the data. It can help where in data has been transposed or entered incorrectly. This is probably the easiest method because you bath copies side by side and you can check for mistakes. It then creates a dot on the paper and keeps happening until a picture forms. Ink is stored in cartridges. It is quite fast but not faster than Laser printers. The quality of colour printing is very low. The best place to use it is in your house because it is cheap and it is worth the price. Print outs are very neat compared to other print outs. Print out may come out wet and this may smudge. Nozzles are much cheaper than toners. Inkjet printers are very noisy. Dot-matrix Dot-matrix printers work by using a set of steel pins which strike an inked ribbon onto paper producing a sequence of dots. Dot-matrix printers are cheap to buy. They are very noisy and disturbing. The best place to use it would be something like a factory because they make a lot of noise and in a factory printers are used very less. It is very cheap to operate. They are very slow and take ages. They are not very hard to use. You can not make colour copies. Monitor TFT Thousands of tiny dots called pixels are displayed which then create an image. TFT monitors are very slim and take up less space. TFT monitors are very slim and can easily get knocked over. The best place to use a TFT monitor would be in an office or an ICT room because It would be less stuffy and more nice and comfortable to use. They create very less heat in the room. They can produce dull and low quality images if the monitor is not good. TFT monitors are not made of glass so the screen will not break. The screen can be damaged if it is poked many times. CRT Thousands of tiny dots called pixels are displayed which then create an image. CRT monitors are big and hard to get knocked over. They create a lot of heat and it can get very stuffy in the room. The best place to use a CRT monitor would be in a nursery where there are lots of small children and the chances of getting damaged are very high as the children will be running about. CRT monitors They are very cheap. They take up too much space and they are less stylish. They are hard to be stolen because they are massive. CRT monitors can make a lot of noise. After looking at all the different types of input devices, my work has been affected greatly. I have also tried my best to use the best out of all the output devices in my task. Conclusion Most of the components and other things I used for my tasks were very suitable. For example, a CRT monitor can not be used in an office and a TFT would be the best.

According to him a single word management include different concept and leadership is one of its concept. Leadership actually means ability to influence other behaviours and acts in order to achieve a certain goal. In multi-national organization, leadership strategy is used by the managers as they want to lead their sub-ordinates to achieve that purpose for which the organization is made for. In any leader, confidence, motivation, better communication system, influencing others, decision making and goal setting characters are essentials as these are the major characters of any leader. The topic that the paper will cover is the leadership in McDonald within US and China. The paper aims to see the differences in leadership strategy used by US and China while particul arly taking McDonald in consideration. This difference enables us to know different strategies these two countries have adopted. Moreover, the paper aims to describe the different leadership strategies used by these countries. Leadership in McDonald by US The democracy in US is more than in China, the reason compromises that US have high political background and have high delegate authority. The political system of the US country favours the democracy and the top management do not love to involve in the issues rather they use to delegate the authorities to their sub-ordinates and much of the authority is in the hand of middle and lower level managers. In US the individualism is preferred than the group working. US McDonald usually seek the Variety reduction in leadership, means that they use to remove the uncertainty by focusing on limited number of resources. This enables the US leader to control the poor performance of their subordinates. Moreover, the McDonald in US prefers to get experienced employees in their firm. The McDonald of US focus mainly on opportunities and less on problems and that is why the McDonald adopted diversification in US. The US manager working in China for McDonald are less ethnocentric rather the Chinese ma nagers. The US manager believes on giving the authority form the top while giving the decision making and problem solving authority to the middle manager. The organizational process in US McDonald is that main authority is passed form the top while lower level mangers that directly interact with the customers solve the problems by them selves. They decide by themselves that how they have to treat people and what will be their next step in the future. Leadership in McDonald by China According to Charles W.L. Hill, Gareth R, Jones (2003) democracy trend in china is very low and that is the reason that leaders in china usually take care of their employees. In fact, China believes on high group orientation, where the leadership strategy works less rather team working is preferred more. We can say that in China paternalistic strategy work more in which the employees are considered as partners. Above all, the china though does not prefer leadership, but do not allow the MNE’s of international firms to lead the china employees in their showroom and firm. McDonald working in China can not adopt leadership strategy to lead the Chinese employees in their country and thus found many problems. Chinese usually adopt the variety amplifier strategy in which the uncertainty increases as the Chinese manager usually seek different alternatives, evaluate them for their further future use. Chinese leaders are the problem seeker; they believe that solving different problems within the firm can reduce uncertainty and increases efficiency while seeking the opportunities. They believe that solving the existing problems while seeking the new opportunities is more important fro the firm to work in the future. The individual behaviour in the McDonald working in China is different form that of USD. The individualism is not a belief of china rather they believe on group dynamics. The organizational behaviour in Chinese McDonald is basically depending on team working and on paternalistic in which a system works on define pattern. Authority and major decision are in the hand of top management, not believe on individualism rather work in teams or groups to solve different problems. While working in US and China, McDonald faces different problems as what type of leadership strategy they must adopt in order to achieve the goals and objectives. A detail theory and concept is provided that will suggest that what type of strategies the firm must adopt to deal with this leadership in these two countries. The very first section deals with contingency design theory and the other section will deals with structuration theory. Contingency theory Al Dunlap experience shows that different leadership strategies must be adopted by the firm when working at global level. The reason is that different countries culture and tradition highly affect the leadership in countries. Some people do not love to lead while some people love to get supervision form the top to know that what should be their next step. Therefore, contingency theory suggests that different leadership strategies should be adopted according to the country type. In this contingency theory, different concept and strategies are used and these will be the part of paper description. Fielder Model According to fielder contingency model, the group performance can be made better if the proper matching of leader style and situation is gained by the leader. This is actually a proper matching between the leader style and type of situation. Different situation required different styles of leadership. For this the leadership style is required to be identified according to the situation. To know that what actually the style should be Fielder developed last preferred co-worker questioner. This questioner will help the leader to know that either their employees are task oriented or relationship oriented. Fielder develops a 16 pager questioner in which he ranked question into two categories, task oriented and relationship oriented. These questioners are then circulated within the employees who than elaborate that what type of leadership strategies are required by the employees. Similarly the McDonald should adopt the similar way of questioner before operating in any country to know that what type of leadership strategy they want in the company, either want task oriented leadership or relationship oriented leadership. While working at global level, such mechanism won’t work as the number of employees is huge and taking view of each employee at each region would not be possible by the McDonald. Later fielder has developed three contingency dimensions which should be taken in consideration as these will define the key situational factors of any firm. These three contingency dimensions are given as Leader-member relations: this defines the relationship within the employees and their leaders. This dimension also shows the degree of confidence, respect and trust the members have on their leaders. Task structure: this dimension enables the leader to know that which job assignment should be structured and which should not be structured. Position power: this dimension describes the power of the leader such as power of hiring, firing, promoting and salary increase. According to fielder view, the more the better relation within the leader and the employee, better will be the structure of an organization. The stronger the position of the leader in the firm, the more he/she will has control over the employees. In matching leaders and situations, the fielder proposed that task-oriented leaders can work better in situation in which the circumstances enhance the task orientated nature of the leaders. For instance fro task oriented leaders, a better structured and manages system will work better. Moreover, the more the power given to the task-oriented leaders, the more they can achieve their task efficiently and quickly. Cognitive resource theory Fielder with his co-worker Joe Garcia re-conceptualized the above mentioned theory and suggests a new theory that is named as cognitive resource theory. According to this theory, they two suggest that the stress actually influence the situation and leadership quality but experience and intelligence can lower this stress that influences the leadership quality. Rationality actually affected by this stress because this affects the logical and analytical thinking of the leaders. But they also suggest that the intelligence and experience of the leaders can help them to minimize this stress. According to this concept they suggested three conclusions Directive behaviour result the good performance only when the high intelligence is linked with the low stress. In high-stress situation, the link between the job experience and performance become very positive and strong The intellectual abilities of the leaders when matched properly with the group performance, it leads to a low stress situation. Hersey and Blanchard’s situational theory This theory was developed by Paul Hersey and Ken Blanchard and is named as situational leadership theory. According to Stephen P. Robbins (2001) â€Å"Situation leadership is a contingency theory that focuses on the followers. Successful leadership is achieving by selecting the right leadership style, which Hersey and Blanchard argue is contingent on the level of followers, readiness.† Book: (organizational behaviour, 9th edition) p. 322. The main emphasis is on focusing the followers and readiness. Focusing on followers means that actually the leadership style depend on the followers, what type of leadership style they want. Readiness means the willingness and ability of the followers and people to accomplish any task. Hersey and Blanchard developed four leader behaviours that are from highly directive to highly laissez-faire. Whereas according to them the most effective behaviour always depends on the follower’s ability and motivation. According to these two studies, when the followers are unable and unwilling, then task-oriented behaviour and leadership is required that lead such followers to accomplish different tasks. But on the other hand, when the followers are willing to do work and are able than the relationship based leadership would be a better choice. Taking McDonald in consideration, the Chinese employees are very able and willing to work hard; therefore, the relationship strategy would be a better choice for the McDonald chain in the china. Where as in US the McDonald has to seek the types of employees in different regions as not all the employees and followers in US are able and willing to work hard. Leader-member exchange theory According to this Fred Luthans (2001), leader usually under pressure form different in-group and out0group. In0group followers are those which are preferred by the leader more, they are more close to the leaders as these people are more efficient. With time, the leaders come to know that which of the followers are more efficient, have competencies and are more able than other. This helps the leaders to form the in-group and out-group formation. In in-group followers the relationship of the leaders are different than out-group. The leaders are more friendly and dependent on the in-group and have relationship leadership. Where as, with the out-group the leaders usually adopt the task-oriented leadership behaviour. These in-group people have personalities and are efficient to provide higher performance, more output and extra working rather out-group people. This differentiation of eladers helps the leader to adopt different leadership strategies with these followers. This situation is m ostly seen in different organization. Therefore, it is advisable for the McDonald to adopt such behaviour in US but when working in China, such behaviour is not advisable as this work on equality and hypocrisy is what Chinese hates. Therefore, it is advisable for the McDonald to achieve the in-group and out-group strategy in US but working in china, the McDonald has to take care of their employees and must provide efficient relation with all employees. Path Goal Theory Robert House path goal theory in contingency model provides an efficient way for the leaders. According to this theory, the leader must provide efficient assistant to the followers so that they can achieve the goals according to the firm objectives. The leaders must lead the followers efficiently to keep them on the track for achieving the particular goals. According to Robert House, there are four different styles of leadership that a leader must adopt Directive leaders: the strategy states that the leaders should direct their followers efficiently so that their sub-ordinates and followers can achieve the specified goals. They should provide them efficient schedule and guidelines to accomplish their tasks Supportive leader: according to this, the leaders must be supportive for their followers so that they can be friendly enough to support them at their difficulties. Participative leader: the leaders should take suggestions from the followers and sub-ordinates so that they together can make a better decision. Achievement –oriented leaders: these are the leaders that provide challenges to their followers and expect from them that they can provide the high level performance to these tasks. According to Robert, environmental contingency factors and subordinates contingency factors affect on these four leadership styles. The leaders can adopt different leader’s styles among these four styles according to the environmental factors and subordinated factors. The leader can choose different strategies among these according to the situation. A leader must have these styles that can be changed with time and situation. This white paper suggest that the McDonald top management should also adopt this strategy in which different leadership styles can be adopted with time and situation while working in china and America. Leader participate model Philips Kotler (2003) argued that leader participate model describes that leader should participate in any problem and decision making when required. It is advisable that the leaders can provide a set of rules and followers should adopt these rules. While major problem solving and decision making must be given to the middle level and lower level managers. This is suitable for the top management. The top management of McDonald are advised that they can provide the set of rules but rest of decision making and problem solving authority should be given to the managers so that they can decide accordingly. It is noticed that leaders are some time irrelevant in aiming decision making. Moreover, in globalization of firm, the top management can not understand the situation at each step and at each region. Structural theory Peter Ferdinand Drucker (2007) stated that structural theory describe that what type of structure a firm must adopt while working at global level. Either too many hierarchies would be a better choice, or a flat organization. A simple organizational structure is better than a bureaucracy. Team working would a better choice or the centralized decision making would be the better choice. Weber describes that when a firm working at global level than the bureaucracy would be the better choice. In bureaucracy, division of labour clearly defines rules and regulations and impersonal relation ship is used to from a clear structure. Therefore, McDonald is advised to adopt the bureaucracy structural model when it seeks that the employees are not able and unwilling to do work. In such situation bureaucracy is the better choice. While working in China, it is preferable to adopt team working organizational structure in which the leadership strategy must be based on relation ship. Different teams should be made at each department and level that together work for the organization. A complete structure of the organization defines that how much power should be given to each employee, how the conflict will be solved and who will solve this, what will be the matrix of the organization. About the Organization Novotel is one of the hotel brands of the Accor group which operates in mid scale headquartered in France. Novotel is Europes largest hotel chain and one of 12 internationally-renowned hotel brands owned by Accor, the French hotel group. Currently they are having 400 hotels and resorts in 60 countries, situated in the centre of major international cities from business districts to tourist destinations. Form those hotels there are 266 hotels in 23 countries within Europe. So here the special consideration was given to NOVOTEL hotels in United Kingdom. The ground level study was done in NOVOTEL London West. Literature Review The literature review of this study was mainly focused on three main areas. i.e Leadership, Employee Motivation and cultural diversity. Leadership Leadership means the ability and willingness to lead and motivate a group of people. It includes improving team performance and effectiveness as well as articulating vision for business improvement. Leaders should play three important roles in the organization namely interpersonal roles, informational roles and decisional roles. These roles require a number of skills such as developing peer relationships, carrying out negotiations, motivating subordinates, resolving conflicts, establishing information networks, making decisions with little information and allocating resources. There are two distinctly different types of leaders one who works with and through others, such as those who head organizations, associations and the like, whilst the others are path leaders/visionaries such as heads of state, military commanders etc. Among the many definitions of leadership, two can be considered the best (a) the ability to get extraordinary performance from ordinary people, and (b) the ability to get follower. Democratic Style This is a contrast style of leadership compared to autocratic leadership. Person opting for this style is like a theory Y leader which invites decision sharing. Here the authority is decentralized. The decisions are arrived after consultation with the members. He is a participative type of leader, attaches more importance to people and work. This style of leadership improves the morale and satisfaction of employees. It also avoids conflicts in the group process. The democratic style sometimes creates lethargy and laziness among members and develops spirit of non-corporative often. Free Rein It is a complete delegation of authority to the subordinates, so that they must plan, motivate and control and otherwise be responsible for their own action. The free rein style leader avoids power and relinquishes the leadership position. When working in a group if they work as a team, if the team itself very effective then this free rein style may successful, as they can work without any kind of interference. Charismatic This type of management is more dominant and perhaps an aggregate of other management styles. This style generates strong enthusiasm and might have as its objectives. The development of a common vision valued shared by organizational members. The discovery or creation of value related opportunities and activities within the framework of the mission and goals of the organization and the emergence in members of strength and greater control of their own destinies, both individually and collectively. Situational This management style which changes their style depending on the person or the group they are working with and on the situation. Situational style is important because people and tasks have to be handled differently, depending on the situation and their level of development. There are many key attributes of good leadership such as being innovative, entrepreneurial and visionary. Leaders need to be courageous, bold and willing to decisive. Among other attributes is the ability to think strategically, identify the big picture and have fall back plans. Some of the most important or key attributes of the leader are to inspire and motivate, be committed and encourage those around with empowerment. Good clear communications, verbally and by body language are inherent qualities of good leadership. Effective leader must explain clearly what they want, what they wish to achieve and how. The ability to make ones people feel important and feel that what they do have great value are great virtues of good leadership. Strong, positive leadership cannot be achieved without good teams. A good leader must have the ability to pick the right people and providing coaching/training and ensure that they carryout tasks that they can do best. If we consider about the leadership in hospitality industry with relation with this particular study, the need for high-quality leaders in the hospitality industry has been willingly recognised and is seen as significant to the long-term safety of the industry. In recent years, the industry has undergone something of a sea change in its gender composition, with increasing numbers of females graduating from hospitality and tourism administration courses. This proposes that the gender composition of managerial position is possible to modify in the medium term, with simultaneous changes in the typical leadership style valued in the industry. Motivation Motivation is an inner drive to behave or act in a certain manner. These inner conditions such as wishes, desires, goals, activate to move in a particular direction in behaviour. It means it is an inner state of mind, which channels or directs behaviour towards the achievement of pre-determined goals. So this part is basically considering about this of study. If we take hierarchy of needs theory by Abram Maslow, he suggested that needs exists at a number of different levels, from basic physiological needs as hunger, and then safety needs like shelter, after word social needs like love and affectionate and then esteem needs like recognition and finally self esteem like power. When achieving basic needs of employee which is the physiological needs, the effect of rewards are less because in this stage salary is the most important thing for physiological and safety needs. But when it comes to the esteem and social needs the effect of rewards and recognitions are high. Reward can be a award which gives at a stage, or it can be a tea with CEO or it can be a 1000 $ cheque for an employee which gives for and achievement. But again when it comes to the self actualization stage the need people need more power as he has already accomplished the other stages of needs in Maslow theory. And again if we take another motivational theory which is the two factor theory by Fredrick Herzberg, he took the view at two levels, physical level and psychological level. Accordingly satisfiers are called as motivators and dissatisfies are called as hygiene factors. Accordingly motivational factors of an employee in an organization can be identified as achievement, recognition, responsibility, personal growth and for some employees work itself a motivator. And at the same time Hygiene factors can be identified as working conditions, company policies administration, salary, other benefits job security, interpersonal relationships, and quality of supervision. Another theory of motivation is the expectancy theory which says that an employee will be motivated to exert to high level of effort when he or she believes that effort will lead to a good performance appraisal; that a appraisal lead to organizational rewards such as bonus, salary increase or a promotion; and that the reward will satisfy the employees personal goals. There are many benefits that an organization can achieve through the employee motivation. Following are some of the factors that we can commonly identify. We cannot find a universal definition on cultural diversity, but according to the charted management institute definition in 2008suggests the cultural diversity means valuing the differences between people and the ways in which those differences can contribute to a richer, more creative and more productive environment. It doesnt means only the race which the contemporary world identifies, but also the diversity can be identify as race, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability and religious/belief. The Great Gatsby :: The Great Gatsby F. Scott Fitzgerald

"Great Gatsby" is a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald which takes place in the early 1900's. This book consists of five main characters, Nick Carraway, Tom Buchanan, Daisy Buchanan, Jay Gatsby and Jordan Baker. When I completed this novel, I came to a conclusion that this is a well - written book. The two main reasons that makes this novel so superior is that Fitzgerald writes from his personal experience and makes good use of his literary elements. Throughout this novel, Fitzgerald's life plays a major part in the scenes and in the story. For example, the conflict in this novel is that Gatsby is trying to get Daisy from Tom, after Daisy turned him down because he wasn't wealthy. Similarly, Fitzgerald and Zelda liked each other, but before they could get married, Fitzgerald needed to earn some money. Obviously, his money came from writing great novels. Another example that portrays Fitzgerald's life in this novel is the vast use of alcohol. In the novel, alcohol is mentioned so often that it changes character's lives. Firstly, Dan Cody, Gatsby's mentor was an alcoholic who died from alcoholism. And secondly, during Gatsby's parties, people were getting drunk (the man in the library saying the books are real!). In Fitzgerald's life, partying and getting drunk was a frequent routine. Coincidentally, Fitzgerald was also an alcoholic who suffered from alcoholism. Not only does Fitzgerald write from his personal experience to enhance his writing, but he also uses good literary elements. Fitzgerald's use of irony and foreshadowing makes his writing so highly - rated. One scene when foreshadowing kicks is when Fitzgerald describes the scene outside the room where Gatsby and Daisy are sitting together. Fitzgerald describes, "Outside the wind was loud and there was a faint flow of thunder along the sound." Thunder is added on purpose; to foreshadow the unstable relationship between Gatsby and Daisy. He uses irony in describing his characters. For example, when Nick goes to Tom's house for the first time and Daisy describes her husband, Tom as being smart and profound. Later on in this novel, we find out how unintelligent Tom is and it takes him great amount of time to figure out that Gatsby and Daisy have something going on.

Writing Prompt: Why consistently do most students don’t do their assigned work? The reason why I believe students now a day don’t do their work is because either they’re to busy doing unimportant things or they have other responsibilities that don’t allowed them to finish their work. Some students prefer hanging out with their friends all day after school instead of going home and finish their homework. They leave everything last minute and in the end they just give up and go to sleep.Other students might have other responsibilities that might take time from them and only have time to finish homework at night. For example some students might have to go home right after school and do chores at home, help out their siblings, have after school clubs or sports to attend, or they might have a job.
